Whitley Bay removals
Removal companies in Whitley Bay and Monkseaton
Whitley Bay has some of the roomiest older houses on the coast, and plenty of people moving into them from Newcastle. We plan moves here around the season, the seafront traffic and houses that often hold more than you think.
People looking for removal companies in Whitley Bay are usually moving one of two kinds of home. Either it is a large older house in the streets back from the seafront or in Monkseaton, or it is a family semi on one of the later estates to the north and west. The two need quite different planning.
Much of the town grew after the railway connected it with Newcastle, and the building that followed in the early twentieth century left Whitley Bay with a lot of generous terraced and semi-detached houses. Big bay windows, deep rooms and three floors are common. So is a lifetime of furniture.
The coast itself is the other factor. On a warm weekend, the seafront and the roads around Spanish City fill up quickly, and a removal van needs space to stop. A bit of thought about the day and time goes a long way here.

Moving around Whitley Bay
Whitley Bay neighbourhoods and what to expect
Whitley Bay runs from Cullercoats in the south up towards St Mary's Island in the north, with Monkseaton inland. Here are the areas we cover most, and the points we plan around in each.
Central Whitley Bay
Terraced houses and Tyneside flats in the grid of streets between Whitley Road and the Metro line. Parking is on-street and fills up in the evenings. Upstairs flats share a frontage with the flat below, so loading needs to leave the door clear for neighbours.
The seafront and Promenade
Large period houses, some now converted into apartments, facing the sea near Spanish City and the links. Seafront traffic is heavy in summer and at weekends, and parking near the Promenade is in short supply. Midweek, out-of-season moves are noticeably easier.
Monkseaton village
The old village core around Front Street is a conservation area, with older buildings and later terraced and semi-detached houses on streets such as Windsor Road and Eastfield Avenue. Some roads are narrow with parking on both sides. We often survey in advance to judge where a lorry can stand.
West Monkseaton
Mostly semi-detached houses with front gardens and drives, around Earsdon Road and the West Monkseaton Metro station. Access is generally good for larger vehicles. Moves here are often families who need more space without leaving the coast.
Whitley Lodge
A residential estate in the north of the town with semis, bungalows and detached homes. Driveways and quieter roads make loading simple. Bungalow moves can be quick to load but are often larger in volume than people expect.
Hillheads and Marden
Housing around Hillheads Road and towards Marden, close to the A193 coast road. Mostly family homes on wider roads. Access is normally straightforward, though traffic builds near the schools at drop-off and pick-up.
Cullercoats
The small bay and harbour south of Whitley Bay, with Victorian terraces near the front and later housing inland. Some addresses come under NE30. Streets near the bay are tight and busy with visitors in good weather.
Parking and access on the coast
In central Whitley Bay and along the seafront, there is rarely a guaranteed space outside the door. If the property has no drive, think about reserving kerb space for the lorry. Check with North Tyneside Council about how to do that and how much notice they need, since arrangements and restrictions vary from street to street.
The larger period houses bring access problems of their own. Front steps, tiled paths, tight turns at the top of the stairs and second-floor rooms in the roof all slow the carry. Heavy items such as dining tables, dressers and wardrobes are often best taken apart, and our furniture dismantling service means they are rebuilt in the right room at the other end.
For the many seafront conversions, ask the managing agent about communal hallways, lifts and any rules on moving times. Some buildings ask for floor protection in shared areas, which we bring as standard. Our flat removals page covers apartment moves in more detail.
Routes, traffic and timing
The Coast Road (A1058) links Whitley Bay with Newcastle and is the route most moves to and from the city will take. The A193 runs along the coast through Whitley Bay and Cullercoats, and the A19 to the west gives access north towards Cramlington and south to the Tyne Tunnel.
Summer weekends, bank holidays and events on the seafront all add traffic around the Promenade and Spanish City. If your dates are flexible, a weekday move outside the school holidays is usually quicker and calmer for everyone.
Many Whitley Bay moves are local. People move from North Shields up the coast, or from Monkseaton to a bigger house near the sea. Our page on removals in North Shields covers the town next door. Others are moving out from the city, and our general guide to removal companies in Newcastle is a good place to start if you are comparing the city and the coast.
The moves we see most in Whitley Bay
Three to five-bedroom family houses make up a large share of the work here. In the older streets that often means a full day for loading and another for packing beforehand, particularly where there are glass-fronted cabinets, pictures and collections built up over many years. Our packing service can be booked for all or part of the house.
Downsizing is the other common move, from a large Monkseaton semi or a seafront house to a flat or bungalow nearby. The hardest part is usually deciding what goes, so we suggest sorting the house room by room in the weeks before and booking any clearance or charity collections early.
Prices depend on volume, access, distance and extra services rather than a fixed rate. Our guide to removal costs explains how quotes are built. When you have a rough date, tell us about your move and we will arrange a survey.

These are the services we are most often asked for along this stretch of coast.
Is it harder to move house in Whitley Bay in summer?
It can be. On warm weekends and in the school holidays, the seafront and the streets near Spanish City and the Promenade are much busier, and parking is harder to find. If you live near the coast, a weekday move is usually easier. For properties further inland, such as West Monkseaton or Whitley Lodge, the season makes much less difference.
Which postcodes do you cover in Whitley Bay?
We cover NE25, which includes Monkseaton and Earsdon, and NE26, which covers central Whitley Bay and Seaton Sluice. Cullercoats is mostly NE30, which is shared with Tynemouth and parts of North Shields, and we cover that too. We also work across the rest of North Tyneside and into Northumberland.
Do I need a survey for a big house in Monkseaton?
For anything larger than a two-bedroom home, a survey is worth having. Older houses often have cellars, attic rooms and fitted furniture that changes the volume a lot. A survey, either in person or by video call, lets us send the right size of vehicle and crew, and gives you a quote that reflects the real job.
Can you move us from Whitley Bay to Newcastle on the same day?
Yes. Most moves between the coast and the city are completed in a single day. The Coast Road is the direct route, though it is slower at rush hour. The access at the Newcastle end matters too: a house in Jesmond or Gosforth with permit parking needs as much planning as the property you are leaving.
Can you help if we are downsizing from a large house?
Yes. We can pack only the items that are going with you, move them to the new home and place furniture where you want it. We suggest measuring the rooms in the new property first, so you know which larger pieces will fit. Anything that is not going should be sorted before moving day so the crew can work quickly.
