Sofas and corner units
Two-seaters, three-seaters and corner sofas, with feet off and sections split where they come apart.

For when you need one sofa, a wardrobe or a dining table moved, not a whole house. We collect from sellers, shops, storage units and family homes across Newcastle and deliver to the room you want, wrapped and carried by two people where needed.
Our furniture removals Newcastle service covers the jobs that fall between a full move and doing it yourself. You have bought a sofa on Facebook Marketplace from someone in Gateshead, a relative in Morpeth is giving you a wardrobe, or a shop will only deliver to the front door. We collect the item, wrap it and put it where you want it.
Single items are awkward because they are heavy, oddly shaped and usually heading through doors and up stairs that were never designed for them. Two people with straps, blankets and a sack truck can move most of them without marking the item or the house. One person and a borrowed estate car usually cannot.
This page covers what we move, how collections from private sellers work, what to measure before you buy something large, and the items we need to see before saying yes.
Typical single-item and small-load jobs we take on around Newcastle.
Two-seaters, three-seaters and corner sofas, with feet off and sections split where they come apart.
Armchairs, recliners and dining chairs, wrapped so fabric and legs arrive unmarked.
Frames taken apart, mattresses bagged, and the bed rebuilt at the other end if you ask.
Collections from private sellers once you have paid and agreed a time with them.
From furniture shops, auction rooms and self-storage units to your door and into the room.
We ask for measurements of the item and the route in, so nothing ends up stuck in the hallway.
A lot of single-item jobs start with an online listing. The furniture is cheap or even free, but the seller will not deliver and it will not fit in your car. These collections are simple to arrange as long as a few things are clear before the van sets off.
Pay for the item and agree the collection with the seller yourself, then give us the address, the seller's phone number and a time window when they will be in. It is much simpler if the sale is settled before we arrive, because the driver is there to move the item, not to haggle over it. Ask the seller which floor it is on, whether it has been taken apart before, and whether a sofa went in through a window, because that is probably how it needs to come out.
Look at the listing photos carefully and ask for dimensions. Plenty of good sofas end up for sale because they did not fit the seller's new place, which is worth bearing in mind if you live in an upstairs Tyneside flat yourself.
IKEA Gateshead, at Metro Park West near the A1, is a common pickup. Flat-pack boxes are manageable on their own but bulky together, and a wardrobe system or a run of kitchen units can fill a van. If you would rather not build it yourself, ask about our furniture assembly service at the same time.
The hard part of moving furniture is usually the last few metres. Victorian terraces in Heaton, Sandyford and Jesmond often have narrow hallways, a tight turn at the foot of the stairs and low headroom on the landing. Upstairs Tyneside flats have a single straight staircase from the street door with little room to turn at the top. Some older flats in the city centre have no lift at all.
Before you buy, measure the item at its widest, deepest and tallest points, then measure the front door, the hall, the stairs and the door of the room it is going into. For sofas, the diagonal depth matters, because that is the angle they are tilted to get round corners. If the numbers are close, send them to us with photos and we will give you a straight answer.
Many sofas have feet that unscrew, and some have arms or backs that bolt on. Corner sofas usually split into sections. Most beds and plenty of wardrobes can be taken apart. The items that cannot be split at all are the ones to check most carefully before you hand over any money.

Some items need more than two people and a blanket. Upright pianos are very heavy, top-heavy and easy to damage on stairs, and grand pianos, range cookers, large safes, cast-iron baths and stone or marble tables fall into the same group. If you need one of these moved, ask us first, with photos and details of the access at both ends. We will tell you honestly whether we can do it, or whether a specialist piano or heavy-item mover is the better choice.
Antiques and family pieces need careful wrapping and a clear idea of where they are weak, such as loose joints, veneers, marble tops or glass doors. Point these out when you book. If an item is valuable, check with your own insurer how it is covered while it is being moved, and ask any remover what their goods-in-transit cover excludes.
If the list keeps growing, it may be time for a bigger service. A small flat's worth of furniture is better suited to our man and van service, while a full home is best handled as house removals with a survey and a planned crew.
Not every shop delivers to the room, and some will only bring items to the kerb or the ground floor. If you have bought a sofa, bed or dresser from a shop or an auction room, we can collect it on an agreed date and carry it in. Check with the shop when the item will be ready, and make sure the collection is booked in a name we can give at the counter.
Self-storage is another common pickup. If you have furniture in a unit and want a few pieces brought home, give us the address, the unit number, the access hours and whether we need a code or a key to get in.
We also move single items between family homes, for example a wardrobe from a parent's house in Whitley Bay to a flat in Newcastle, or a bed and desk into a student house. For anything heading further afield, read about our long distance removals.
The price depends on the size and weight of the item, how many people it needs, stairs and access at both ends, and the distance. There is more on that in our removal costs guide. To book, send the details and a photo through our contact page.
Include the item, both addresses, floor levels and any stairs or tight turns on the way in.
We tell you whether it needs one or two people and agree a date and a time window.
We wrap the item, remove feet or split sections if needed, and strap it securely in the van.
We carry it into the room you want, unwrap it and rebuild anything we took apart.
Straight answers to the things people ask us most.
We cover Newcastle upon Tyne and the surrounding areas, including Gateshead, Sunderland, Durham, Jesmond, Gosforth, North Shields, Whitley Bay and Cramlington.
Yes. Agree the sale and a collection time with the seller first, then send us the address, the seller's contact details and the size of the sofa. Ask the seller whether it has been taken apart before and how it got into their house. If it came in through a window or with a door off its hinges, it will probably need the same on the way out.
Measure the sofa's height, width and depth, then the narrowest point on the route in, which is usually the front door, a turn on the stairs or a landing door. Send us those numbers with photos. Many sofas have removable feet, arms or sections. If it genuinely will not fit, it is far better to find out before you buy than with the sofa wedged halfway up the stairs.
Ask us first. Pianos are heavy, top-heavy and easily damaged, and a staircase changes everything. Send photos, the type of piano and details of the access at both ends, and we will tell you honestly whether we can move it safely. Some piano moves are best left to specialist piano movers with the right equipment, and we will say so if that is the case.
Yes. Buy online or in store and arrange a collection time with IKEA Gateshead, then send us the order details and your address. We collect it and bring it into your home. If you do not want to build it yourself, mention it when you book and we can arrange assembly as part of the same job.
Getting rid of old furniture properly needs a waste carrier registration and disposal costs, so ask what we can offer when you book. Otherwise, Newcastle City Council and the other local councils run bulky waste collections, and furniture in good condition can often go to a charity that collects. Check with your council for current charges and booking times.
Single items are easier to fit into the diary than full moves, so they can sometimes be done at short notice, especially midweek. It depends on what is already booked and how many people the item needs. Send photos and both addresses as early as you can and we will offer you the first slot that works.
Most moves use more than one service. These are the ones that pair well with this one.
